Empowering Women...

for a better future

According to the 2011 study conducted by International Food Policy Research Institute, when women earn money, they will spend up to ten times more than men on improving their child's nutrition. Therefore, we believe that empowering women with alternative income generation opportunities will lead to long-term sustainable charges will lead to long-term sustainable changes in economically-challenged communities.

We provide free training in handicrafts and sewing to women. The trainees have access to sewing machines to practice and work on their crafts. In 2020, we launched a program, to empower two hundred women from disadvantaged rural communities in Sunderbans. Each woman was given five chicks to raise, and continuous support to ensure their well-being free of cost. The idea was that once the chicks matured into egg-laying hens, the women could sell their organic free-range eggs as a source of income. Some would sell chicken for meat. The women would raise the next generations of chickens and continue rearing their "micro-poultry" to a sustainable scale. The eggs and meat from the "micro-poultry" would also provide the women's households with affordable source of protein. In 2022,  Rotary Club provided us with an incubator to accelerate the hatching process. With shorter and safer incubation, there is faster turnaround and higher profitability. The micro-poultry program is one of our most successful endeavors.
